Just finished watching yesterday’s Colbert. His interview with Bob Lutz was Colbert at his absolute best. Lutz was flummoxed for a solid half-minute when asked about global warming. Apparently, even though Chevy is about to release the Volt, their new electric car, which if popular could further reduce both our reliance on fossil fuels and lower our carbon tonnage, Lutz doesn’t believe in “the CO2 theory.”
Oh, yeah, that theory. During the interview, he mentions that “32,000 of the world’s leading scientists” concur with this viewpoint. Is he employing a grossly expanded definition of the term ‘scientist?’ Or perhaps ‘world?’ By far the best moment though is when Colbert asks if the Volt “will get him laid.” Lutz replies in the affirmative, but qualifies his response by adding “you’re going to get a whole lot of nice, no make-up environmentalists.” Is it any surprise that GM is nearly bankrupt? This guy is running what was one of the biggest companies in the world, and he’s stuck in the seventies when the only people who cared about the environment were the crunchy, granola crowd. Furthermore, market research has shown again and again that environmental conservation ranks high among the issues that matter to women. Yes, Bob Lutz, only women who wear no make-up would saddle up to man driving a low impact vehicle. Is it any wonder that one day Chinese people will be complaining about all the cheap “Made in America” products.
